High-Voltage & EV Infrastructure: Machined Ultem® Insulators, Spacers & Connector Bodies

EV/charging relies on high-dielectric, heat-stable plastics. Machined Ultem® (PEI) insulators & connector parts designed and made by Enplas.

The challenge

EV drivetrains, battery packs, and EVSE fast-charging hardware demand parts that combine electrical insulation, heat resistance, chemical durability, and dimensional stability. Ultem® (PEI) is engineered for this space, appearing in charging connectors, terminal covers, busbar supports, spacers, and enclosures where high dielectric strength, rigidity, and flame performance matter.

SABIC’s Ultem® portfolio highlights connector and high-voltage component use cases and provides grades with flow and low CTE for precise, thin-wall features, useful when machining detailed geometries that must hold tolerance across temperature swings. Ultem®’s electrical insulation performance is also cited among the highest for engineering thermoplastics, reinforcing its fit for insulators and coil forms.

Typical machined EV/EVSE parts we make

  • Connector bodies, latch blocks, and alignment rings for charging guns and sockets
  • Busbar spacers, stand-offs, and terminal covers in packs & power electronics
  • Sensor housings and coil formers where dielectric & heat stability are vital

How Enplas helps

We extrude Ultem® stock and CNC-machine parts to spec, advising on:

  • Grade selection (unfilled vs. glass-reinforced) to tune stiffness and dielectric clearance
  • Machining tactics that preserve flatness and hole position for connector fit-ups
  • Surface finishing, labeling, and lot traceability for regulated HV assemblies
